Cortile Centrale
The Central Courtyard, situated at the heart of Forte San Giorgio, is surrounded by its ancient arches and majestic walls. In summer it becomes a sheltered open-air sitting room, with a window offering breathtaking views over the sea.
Terrazza Tramontana
The Sunset Terrace is next to the Piscina Tramontana and the Pool Bar, and affords delightful views beyond the lighthouse and the port to Gorgona. During the day, it’s a sunny spot in which to take things easy; in the evening it’s the ideal place in which to sip an aperitif and watch the sun go down over the distant mountains. For special events the Terrazza becomes a splendid party venue.
Gardens
During our restoration of Forte San Giorgio, we created four Mediterranean gardens, each designed to be ecologically sustainable, drought tolerant, and reflective of Capraia’s unique ecology. We carefully selected plants that would support the local honeybee population and provide an abundance of aromatic herbs for the kitchen. For our guests, the gardens are a quiet place in which to walk, relax and reflect while enjoying the views over the island. The gardens can also be used for private parties and events.

The architecture of Forte San Giorgio is as intriguing as it is awe-inspiring. There is always more than one pathway to any terrace, and the changing colour of the stonework as the day progresses is a delight to behold. At night, awakened by starlight or our subtle lighting, it takes on a softer, more mysterious hue.
