An Authentic Mediterranean Experience

If you believe - as we like to do - that the Tuscan Archipelago was formed by Aphrodite's necklace, falling into the sea from the capricious goddess' hands, Capraia is certainly its brightest gem. Far from the busy tourist trail, the Island is a geological and natural wonder.

The rare Corsican Seagull, the Pilgrim Hawk, the Buzzard, the Imperial Crow are just some of the beautiful species of birdlife to be admired in Capraia, especially during springtime around Stagnone, the only natural lake of the whole Tuscan Archipelago. Capraia is also a national destination for diving. Lovers of this activity can enjoy prairies of sea daisies, posidonia and sponges; follow the sudden, sharp cliffs which sink into the blue, hiding the nests of the great stone basses, swim with sargo fishes, snappers, sea breams and greater amberjacks. Capraia is at the heart of Pelagos, the Mediterranean Cetacean Sanctuary: it is not  uncommon to catch sight of a whale, or a school of dolphins jumping above the waves.
