Dining at Forte San Giorgio

Two of Forte San Giorgio’s three luxury apartments have their own designer kitchen.

A state-of-the-art central kitchen, available for use by all our guests, lies at the heart of the fortress.

Depending on your needs and preferences, we’d be only too happy to stock up these kitchens in advance with basic foodstuffs and local delicacies from Capraia and mainland Tuscany. Recommended grocery and wine lists are available on request. 

In addition, we can accommodate guests’ personal staff, provide contacts for local kitchen staff and caterers, and work with a brilliant wedding and events planner for special occasions.

The Flavours of Capraia

Capraia is a natural herb garden. Rosemary, thyme, curry plant, and mint grow wild. From the aromatic myrtle bushes, locals extract the famous mirto, a sweet, ruby-coloured liqueur. On the fertile volcanic plateau and hillside terraces they cultivate grape vines, olive and citrus trees.

 

 

 
 
 
 

The Island’s main culinary protagonists are the fish.

Fishing boats leave the harbour every morning at dawn and return before noon to unload their catch. Our guests can join in with locals to buy fish directly from the fishermen as, seated on the quayside, they untangle their nets in the afternoon sunshine.  Unsurprisingly, fish take pride of place on the island’s menus, and the town’s traditional restaurants serve the day’s catch alongside typical Tuscan dishes.
